PPF Calculator
PPF is one of the few genuinely tax free instruments left: nothing is taxed going in, while it grows, or on the way out. This PPF calculator shows the 15 year maturity amount at the current notified rate, and sets it against a fixed deposit paying a higher headline rate but taxed at your slab.

- Inflation at 6%−₹23.71 lakh
Worth knowing
Is this really tax-free?
Yes. Contributions, interest and maturity are all exempt — the rare EEE treatment. It is why this beats a fixed deposit paying a higher headline rate, once you are in the 30% slab.
Why does this not ask for my income tax slab?
Because nothing here is taxed, at any stage, whatever you earn. Your slab decides the tax on things like deposit interest — there is none to decide here.
Where does the rate come from?
2026-Q2's notified rate. The government resets small-savings rates every quarter, so this is not fixed for the life of the account.

Over 15 years, Equity mutual fund keeps the most — +5.41% a year in real terms — which is a different order from the one the headline rates suggest, because tax and lock-in do most of the deciding.
